The Midwest VMX Championship Series!

TOMMY O'S LINE

"Not the fastest line - Just the most committed"

An Ongoing Series by Tommy O'Donnell

So I’m driving home from what I think was one of the coolest first and second rounds of the Midwest VMX LLC series that I’ve attended in a long time. I’m sitting in line at the Valparaiso cash box trying to get back to the northern suburbs where I live and Wham!… I get rear ended. Luckily it was only a 5 to 10 mile an hour impact, but it was enough to scramble my brain to what I was going to say about this weekend‘s events.
I had most of today to start reflecting on how the weekend went… First off I would like to thank Wabash Cannonball Motorcycle Club for going above and beyond to hold the event for us!

It’s been a couple of years since we’ve been there and it was a lot of fun to come back! Wow, the track is a lot different and very meticulously maintained! Hats off to you guys!

Second… I would like to thank all of our sponsors without all of you guys. None of this would even be possible!
Third, the committee that we have put together to keep this series alive is an awesome group. I work with some great leadership and proud to be a part of it!

There were some really good racing going on this past weekend! There’s definitely a couple of Fast Indiana boys that definitely knew their way around the track! It was good to see all of our long time members of the Midwest VMX out there racing and racing hard I might add. Seems like everybody came into the season a lot more prepared than normal!

Welcome to all the new members… I hope you all had a great time and continue to keep coming the whole summer! It was told to me by the original owner of this series “welcome to the best part of the rest of your life”! What can be more fun than just riding your dirtbike?
Our dinner gathering was a little smaller than normal, but that was due to the cold weather and not being able to pit as close to each other as normal, but we have all summer to nail that down! Thank you, Dave Parker and Colton Luth for taking control of the grub and keeping us all fed!
Me personally I’m enjoying being a promoter/racer! I kind of took it easy this first weekend because I didn’t come in as prepared as I should have… Injuries really set me back over the winter but I’ll get there! I get to race with the best bunch of guys out there!
I heard a few rumblings why people weren’t there this weekend because they didn’t want to drive that far. I myself drove four hours along with most of our committee… But we have some diehards that’s traveled 12-14 hours!! Jon 'frog' Forsell is one of them!! That’s commitment!
Our next event will be at Sunset Ridge MX June 5/6/7. Friday is the practice for the Racer X Series race on Saturday, but they will have a practice group for the older bikes if interested in running practice on Friday. (Times and fees can be found on their website) they also offer about four different Vintage classes for Saturday’s race also. They are more era classes than ability or age. These are non-points paying towards the Midwest VMX series. Sunday, we will continue as round three of the Midwest VMX LLC series.
I hope everyone has a good next couple of weeks and looking forward to seeing everyone again soon! Remember… The throttle is on the right!
